 ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS

GIVE YOUR CUSTOMERS THE BEST LABEL OPTIONS BY ASKING THESE SIX KEY QUESTIONS

July 15, 2020 BY REBECCA OSTERMAN

Getting your labels right requires more than just making sure you have the correct size and wind direction. Help ensure your customer's labels will perform by asking these essential questions.

Questions to Understand Label Needs

Whether your customers are looking for autoID labels, shipping labels or industrial labels, the selection can be overwhelming. Given the large variety, it is sometimes hard to match the right label product for your customer.

When selling labels, it’s important to not just be a salesperson, but a resource. This means that you don’t just ask your customers for the size, quantity and specifications of their labels, but make sure to understand what type of label they really need – that will perform in the long run.

Get the Best Label for Your Customer's Application

In order to get your customer’s labels right, it’s important to dig a little deeper and ask the questions that will help you find the most appropriate labels for your customers' applications. Go beyond the ordering basics of size and quantity and ask these six questions to help find the label that meets your customer’s specific needs:

  • What is the label being applied to? Is it a smooth or textured surface? Flat or round? What material is the surface made of?
  • How long does it need to last? Is this a temporary label or does it need to remain readable for months or years?
  • What are the temperature and conditions it needs to function in after application? Is it going to be indoors? Exposed to cold, moisture or extreme heat? Will it be exposed to chemicals or abrasives?
  • Is it run through a printer for imaging? If so, what is the printer make and model?
  • Does the label need to be preprinted or blank? Will the customer need help designing the pre-printed label?
  • At what temperature is the label being applied? Labels applied in a cold environment for example would need a different adhesive to make sure they stick.
